What It Was
DataTalk Asia was an election data portal covering Southeast Asia. It provided structured datasets, visualizations, and data journalism on electoral processes and violations.
The platform was bilingual in English and Indonesian, serving journalists, researchers, and election observers.
My Role
I handled data processing and data engineering for this project under PPMN, as part of the RESPECT program: Asia Pacific Regional Support for Elections and Political Transitions.
My work focused on cleaning, processing, and structuring election violation datasets from multiple countries, then preparing the data pipelines that fed the portal.
Data Coverage
The portal covered three countries: Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
Data categories included:
- voter data
- election results
- election violations
- election result disputes
Datasets were available in XLSX and CSV formats, with visualizations and narrative articles built on top.
Why It Mattered
Election transparency depends on accessible, well-structured data. A centralized portal for violation reporting gave journalists and civil society a shared evidence base.
The bilingual format helped local practitioners and international observers work from the same material.
